Doron Langberg

Yossi Milo Gallery is pleased to present a new series of small paintings of friends and lovers by Doron Langberg, with a portion of the proceeds from sales going to support the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition. For the new 24" x 18" portraits, Langberg takes his process based on direct observation from his studio into various outdoor locations amidst trees and dunes.

Established in 2011, the Black Trans Advocacy Coalition is the only 501(c)3 nonprofit organization led by black trans people to address the inequities faced in the black transgender human experience. Their work is based in peace building, community education, public policy initiatives, empowerment programs and direct services. For more information, please visit the BTAC website.

"This body of work is special to me because this was the first time I was fully committed to working out of my studio… painting on the dunes, painting on the beach, painting in people’s homes, really opened up formal opportunities that I hadn’t really explored before in my portraits."
"So much of my work is about achieving a sense of freedom. From the looseness of the brush strokes or the immediacy of the touch, to my figures feeling like full human beings, with agency and interiority. I want to claim for queerness the same gravity as other kinds of experiences."

Paintings by Langberg are in the permanent collections of the RISD Museum, Providence, RI; and Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Museum, Philadelphia, PA. The artist received his MFA from Yale University after earning his BFA from the University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Langberg was born in 1985 in Yokneam Moshava, Israel. He currently lives and works in New York City.
